Jay Dunlap 84 of Odessa TX passed away on February 18, 2008 at Parks Methodist.
Jay was born in Estelline, Texas on April 6, 1923 to Benjamin and Ollie Dunlap. He married Flossie Harmon on May 5, 1942 in Los Angeles, California before entering the USAF for his service to our country in WWII. He received many medals and commendations for his service including two bronze stars.
Upon returning to the United States in January, 1946, he and Flossie moved to Sherman, Texas where he built their home and lived until 1948. He then moved to Odessa and became employed with Cummins Sales and Service until his retirement as Branch Manager after 35 years.
He has been a member of Sherwood Church of Christ for many, many years.
Jay loved to travel with their grand-children on trips to Ruidoso and Ft. Davis. He enjoyed spending time with his family. His favorite past time was sitting on his patio enjoying the hummingbirds. He also loved to work in his yard and around his home, working tirelessly, even after retirement.
Jay Dunlap was a good man, a good husband and a good dad. He was a Christian and he loved his wife and family immensely. He enjoyed his grandchildren and especially his great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
He was predeceased by his parents, two sons, James Harmon and Kenny Dunlap, grandson, Jeremy Dustin, two brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Flossie Dunlap, two sons, Gary Dunlap and wife Mary, Dennis Dunlap and wife, Ivy, grandchildren, Shelby Dunlap and wife, Angela; Mallory Dunlap, JonMikal Mosher, all of Odessa; Oleta Sutzko of Carrollton, Texas and two great-grandchildren, Allison and Aidan. Two brothers, Marvin Dunlap of Springtown, Texas and Waymon Dunlap of Chanute, Kansas, numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Terry Dunlap, Tony Dunlap, Roger Winchell, James Mims, JonMikal Mosher and Steve Hernandez.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Parks Methodist Retirement Center for their compassion and dedication.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Money officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
