Jackie L Putty, 76, passed away Thursday February 7, 2008 at Medical Center Hospital. Jackie was born in Flat Creek Texas on August 1, 1931 to Durant and Vallie Mae Putty. He was raised in Desdemona and Stephenville Texas.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army, 5th RCT Division during the Korean conflict. Upon his return from Korea, Jackie married the love of his life, Sue Cobb, in Waco Texas on December 25th 1955. They made Odessa their home in 1957 when Jackie went to work for General Tire and Rubber Company. He retired from there after 32 years of service.
He spent his retirement years as a part time farmer, rancher, coffee shop philosopher, and a full time friend. Throughout his life he was known for his generosity. He never passed up an opportunity to lend a helping hand, whether it was to a lifelong friend or a total stranger.
Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Stafford, sister Billie Williams, son-in-law Leon Mitchell, and daughter-in-law Tressia Putty.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sue; son Lindle Putty; daughters Becky Thorp and husband Terry and Janet Mitchell all of Odessa; sisters; Neita Vaught of Wink, TX and Dessa Shaw of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren: Heather of Layton, Utah, Jason, Maxie, Mandy, Jackie, and Chris all of Odessa; and one great granddaughter Nevae of Odessa. He is also survived by an aunt, an uncle, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday February 9, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday February 10, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment with Military Honors with VFW Post 4372 will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
