Our mother Iva Jo Baer went to be with the lord on December 20,2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. We are sure that our father, Max, was waiting for her with his arms wide open, what a reunion.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, December 23rd, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell will be officiating the service. A burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Iva Jo Baer was born in Dekalb, Texas to Phillip and Ella Follis on August 9th, 1936. Jo married Max Baer on April 17,1955 in Oklahoma. They were married 65 years when Max passed away in 2020.Jo graduated from Odessa high School in 1954. She worked for ECISD for many years until her retirement.
Jo opened her home to many people, always welcoming anyone who needed help and always wanted to make sure they felt at home. Jo loved to cook and what a great cook she was. She loved her grandkids very much. As they were the ones that gave her the nickname of “Ma”. For many years she attended the grandkids’ baseball, football, basketball games and any other function that included her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Max Baer; parents, Phillip Follis and Ella Cartwright; sister, Barbara Deaver; and granddaughter, Karli Teegarden.
Jo is survived by sons, Joe Mack Baer of Odessa, Terry Baer of Grapevine Texas, and Ellen Teegarden (Mike) of Odessa, Texas; brothers, Wayne Cartwright of Dekalb Texas, Marvin Cartwright of Texarkana, Tx; and sister, Kay Barrett (John) of New Boston, Tx; grandchildren, Michael Baer (Brandon), Phillip Baer (Kim), Jody Baer (Sydney) and Shealah Lackey (Sawyer), Derrick Teegarden and Kirby Teegarden; great grandchildren, Bryson & Beckett Baer, Brennan & Barron Baer, Braeden, Remi and Reyna.
Pallbearers will be Michael Baer, Phillip Baer, Jody Baer and Derrick Teegarden.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital
