Imogene Courtney

Imogene Courtney, 89, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on February 21, 2022, in Odessa, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 28, 2022, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with James of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Imogene was born in Milburn, Oklahoma to Albert and Ruth Shelton on June 18, 1932. She graduated from high school in 1949. She married Weldon Ray Courtney on May 21, 1951, and moved to Odessa, Texas. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell and retired from there in 1987. Imogene was an active member of First Baptist Church and volunteered for Mission Odessa, Permian Basin Mission Center, and the Texas Size Garage Sale. She enjoyed traveling with her sister and friends after her retirement and doted on all her family.

Imogene is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ruth Shelton; her husband, Weldon Ray Courtney; brothers, Monroe Shelton, and Huston Shelton; and sister, Delores Burleson.

Imogene is survived by son, Rusty Courtney and wife Mary of Odessa; daughter, Jena Townsend and husband Jim of Midland; brother, Curtis Shelton of Paris, Texas; and sister, Letha Willingham of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Rachel Hamilton and husband Chris, Amy Nava and husband Rainier, Ray Courtney, and Joey Townsend.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Courtney, Ray Courtney, Rainier Nava, Jeff Shelton, Johnny Burleson, and Michael Johnson.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses in CCU, and the staff of 5 Central at Medical Center Hospital, also doctors, nurses, and staff of Home Hospice.
