Huelon Doug Cox

March 22, 1948 — May 12, 2024

Odessa

Huelon Doug Cox was born on March 22, 1948, in Princeton, Kentucky, to his parents, Hermon Cox and Grace Higdon Cox. A devoted husband, father, cherished friend, and military veteran, Doug passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2024.

Doug proudly served in the Army and was honorably discharged in June 1971. Just a few short years after his discharge, Doug met the love of his life, Sandy, in Houston, Texas. Their love story was one for the ages. While he was not the biological father of Russell and Sean, Sandy’s sons, each of them would tell you that he was their dad. He put both boys before himself, and Sandy would tell you jokingly that she wasn’t sure if he married her for them or her. He helped mold two little boys into men who were free spirits just like him. His influence and guidance shaped their lives, leaving an incredible mark on their hearts.

Doug's adventurous spirit led him to scrounge for treasures in the Big Bend area and everywhere he went. He found beauty and wonder in the world around him. He also had a great affection for the 4-legged animals. Especially horses and dogs. This is where you could find him riding in West Texas on his horse Smokey and with his dog Lobo.

Doug's passion for life knew no bounds. He was a true adventurer at heart, finding joy in every thrill life had to offer. He preferred the steel horse, from racing motorcycles and dirt bikes to racing circle track, Doug's love for speed and adrenaline, fueled his spirit and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

After moving to Odessa, He went to work with Sandy at Benchmark Properties as a maintenance supervisor for dozens of commercial properties. He worked for the Harley shop for many years. The perfect match for him and his love of motorcycles.

Doug adored his grandchildren, Sydney and Jesse, whom he loved dearly. He loved every moment spent vacationing and visiting with them, creating memories that will endure for generations to come.

His greatest love was for his beloved wife Sandra Jo Cox. Their bond was unbreakable, their love was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they shared a lifetime of cherished memories, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Doug is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Jo Cox; and sons, Sean Smith and Russell Sterling Reynolds; his parents, Hermon and Grace Cox; and his siblings, Mary E Canik, Thelma Anderson, James Cox, Doris Clark Cox, Joyce Soden, and Rebecca Cox.

He is survived by his brother, Charles W Cox; daughter-in-law, Jodi Smith; grandchildren, Sydney and Jesse Smith; and many other nieces and nephews.

Though he may have ridden off into the sunset, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
