Gloria Phillips

Gloria Dianne Phillips, 72, of Odessa, TX, passed away on December 14, 2021, in Odessa.

Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, December 17, 2021, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Bartlett of Star Hospice, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Gloria was born in Cleburne, TX to Benton Ray Dossey and Mattie Lee Dossey on July 6, 1949. She grew up and went to school in Odessa. She married William Phillips in Odessa. She graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington. After college she dedicated her life to serving in education as she worked for Ector County ISD for a total of 47 years, first as a teacher for many years, and later worked in the ESL department in many capacities where she was affectionately called “Mama G” by her colleagues. She loved teaching and seeing her students succeed in life, she was always there to help others and is probably looking down from heaven reviewing the grammar of this.

Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, William Phillips; father, Benton Ray Dossey; mother, Mattie Lee Dossey; and sister, Beverly Joyce Brown.

Gloria is survived by her brother, Terry Dossey and wife Naomi of Odessa; nieces, Amy Dossey of Dallas, and Kimberly Rice of Arlington; nephews, Nathan Pinkston and wife Lauren of Katy, and Eric Dossey of Dallas; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews; as well as her extended “work family.”

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Freeze, Steven Freeze, Seth Gower, Clayton Allen, Richard Medina, and Sean Isbell.
