Gerald Don Carpenter passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Abilene, Texas.  Gerald was born in Hamlin, Texas to Lewis and Lucille Carpenter on May 11, 1938. He spent most of his childhood in Odessa, Texas and his father owned the Chevron station on Andrews Highway.  He graduated from Odessa High School in 1956 and attended Odessa College, where he played basketball and baseball.  He later moved to Layfette, LA and received his Bachelor of Science from University of Southwestern Louisiana.

He worked as a Claims Adjuster for over 30 years working in Texas and New Mexico.  Later in his career he would storm trouping and work in all states handling claims after major storms.  He retired to Anson where he lived with his wife, Sharon Carpenter.  They were married in Reno, Nevada on July 12, 1990.

He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Don Carpenter.

Gerald left a loving family of his wife, his daughter, Laura A. Carpenter of Odessa/Galveston, Texas.  He was able to spend his last days with them and his grandchildren, Alexander Carpenter, Stephanie Carpenter Forester, Charlotte Carpenter, Emily and Elizabeth Carpenter; and his great granddaughter, Penelope Forester.

Instead of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Henricks Hospice of Abilene, whose care and compassion made his last days easier on the family.
