Gary Lee Kenney, 79, of Tow, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, January 6th, leaving behind a lifetime of love, memories, and devotion to family.
Born on October 7th, 1946 in Hobbs, NM, Gary lived a life rooted in faith, service, and unwavering love for those closest to him. He was a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, and a beloved brother. His family was the center of his world, and his greatest joy came from being surrounded by those he loved.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Gary served his country with honor and courage. The values he carried from his service; loyalty, integrity, and sacrifice—shaped the way he lived and loved. He led quietly, worked hard, and gave selflessly, always putting others before himself.
Those who knew Gary Lee will remember his kind heart, steady presence and his famous words, “What in the cornbread hell are you doing????”. He was someone you could always count on—whether for wise advice, a comforting word, or simply just sitting beside you. His laughter, jokes, stories, and warm embrace will be deeply missed but forever treasured.
He was preceded in death by his father; Lester Kenney, mother; Bernice Hibbitts, step-dad; Manton Ray Dodson, Sisters; LaDonna Hamilton and Jeanette Plante; and Brothers; Butch Dodson, Bruce Boller and Larry Kenney.
He is survived by his beloved spouse, Kelly Kenney; his children Gary Don, and wife Amanda, Weylon, and wife Kathryn, Aaron, and wife Bobbie Jo and Benito Gonzales; stepchildren, Lynn Talton and husband Jeff, Binnie Heffington, Ricky Heffington; his 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who brought endless pride and joy to his life; His siblings Gay Helton, Nella Wilkerson, Birdie Hickey, Randy Dodson, Jack Boller and Dale Kenney; with many nieces, nephews who considered him a second father, and extended family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we take comfort in knowing his love lives on in the family he built, the values he passed down, and the countless lives he touched. His legacy of love, service, and faith will continue for generations.
Serving as pallbearers are Gary’s beloved grandchildren; Josh, Megan, Logan, BriKayli, Blaire, Levi, Harli, Lane and David; whose presence is a final and profound act of love and respect. Their strength, devotion, and willingness to honor their Pepaw in this way will forever be cherished by the family.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026 from 5pm to 8pm. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 15th at 1:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his honor.
