Ernest Dwight Gober, of Odessa, Texas completed this life on May 18, 2026, at the age of 87 after a valiant struggle with trigeminal neuralgia and cancer. A funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, and burial will be in the Holt Cemetery in San Saba County, Texas on Friday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m.

Dwight was born on January 10, 1939 in Iraan Texas to parents Ernest Gober and Iva Mae Fikes Gober. He graduated from McCamey High School in 1957 and from Texas Technological College in May 1964. He worked as a rancher/farmer, in the old field and at other jobs until his retirement from Chevron/Texaco at the age of 62. Dwight had numerous interests and hobbies, including breeding quarter horses, breeding and training greyhounds for hunting, exploring on ATVs, arrowhead hunting and fishing. After retirement he stopped trying to find arrowheads and became an accomplished and well-known flint-knapper, selling his arrowheads and knives at “knap-ins” in numerous states along with offering instruction and training. He was not afraid of hard work and he was exceptionally skilled with welding, construction and mechanical repair.

Dwight was married four times. His first marriage to Exa Kaye Ainsworth in 1962 resulted in three children, René, Fronye, and Eric. He married Bonnie Faye Ellison in 1981 and added a son and daughter, Cory and Mica. He was married to Bobbie Louetta Boyd around 1992. Dwight finally found the right woman, Mary Linda Nymeyer Holland Gober, and married her on January 30, 2011. Dwight and Linda lived in contentment, enjoying each other’s company.

Dwight is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Gober and Iva Mae Gober, and by two sisters, Yvonne Gober Cook and Zelda Daphyne Nelson.

He is survived by wife Mary Linda Gober, and by his children: Exa René Hawklee with husband Jim Hawklee, Fronye Caroline Rendon and her husband Enrique Rendon, Eric Ainsworth, Cory Blake Gober and his wife Rebecca Gober, and by daughter Mica Leigh Gober and her husband Mark Daily. Dwight had ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Grandchildren are: Erin Exa Corvinova, Connor Scott Franks, Silas Ainsworth, Blake Alton Ainsworth, Benjamin Julian Rendon, Exa Ines Rendon, Audrey Kathleen Gober, Archer Jayce Gober, Rowan Jonna Daily and Keir Emrys Daily. Great-granddaughters are Beatrix Exa Corvinova and Fern Tara Corvinova.

Pallbearers will be Cory Gober, Jim Hawklee, Enrique Rendon, Mark Daily, Benjamin Rendon and Archer Gober.
