Elva Carrasco Mendoza, 88, of Odessa, passed away surrounded by family, on Tuesday, Dec 3rd in Odessa, Texas.
Elva was born in Ojinaga, México to Manuel and Luz Carrasco on April 24, 1937. She was one of four siblings and second oldest. She raised four children, had 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. They were all the lights of her life and anytime they would come to visit it would brighten her day. Her grandchildren lovingly called her Mamaa as did all of their closest friends. All her children and grandchildren loved her homemade food, especially the baby tortillas she would make just for them. She was a devout and faithful Catholic woman of God who prayed daily and had a special devotion to reciting the rosary. Elva had a green thumb and loved having her hands in the tierra. She had a great passion for gardening that was evident through the lush and picturesque backyard where she would have family gatherings and celebrations. She loved her family fiercely and brought so much joy to them all. She always took the time to sit with family and provide words of wisdom that will be cherished for a lifetime. She enjoyed music and singing to her favorite songs, always rooting for her Permian Panthers and Dallas Cowboys and was always captivated by horses and their beauty. Mamaa passed along her parents’ heritage of family, faith and love and her life’s work can be seen in the family she leaves behind.
Elva is proceeded in death by her parents Manuel and Luz Carrasco, her spouse, Pete Mendoza, Sr., her son Pete Mendoza, Jr., her siblings Antonio Carrasco and Olga Leyva.
Elva is survived by daughters, Nancy Mendoza Pedroza and husband David, Sylvia Vogel and husband John, Diane Mendoza Martinez and husband Art; brother Ruben Carrasco and wife Olivia, by grandchildren Audra Cardona, Dwain Cardona and wife Christina, Lance Cardona and wife Amanda, Troy Cardona and wife Anna, Theresa Davis and husband Philip, Matt Vogel, Julie Vogel and husband Brett, Andrew Vogel and fiancé Jen, Sam Vogel and Max; by great-grandchildren Maggie Cardona, Emma Cardona, Rosie Cardona, Abby Davis, Audrey Cardona, Zoe Davis, Macyn Cardona, and Violet Vogel Hudler and many other loved ones.
