Elizabeth Lyons

July 11, 1942 — May 12, 2023

Odessa

Elizabeth “Beth” Mae Lyons, 80, Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 12, 2023.

She was born to parents, Mae and Arleigh Clemens of Woodbury, NJ. In Philadelphia, PA on July 11, 1942.

Beth was a talented piano and organ player, who brought joy with her music for decades to churchgoers throughout Delaware and New Jersey. Her great-great grandmother immigrated to America in the late 1800’s from England and the ensuing traditions inspired her lifelong love and fascination with the Royal Family. She was a true Anglo-file who grew up listening to the Queen’s address over the radio.

Beth was a fashion icon born out the 1950’s and 1960’s and her love of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She had exquisite style in clothing, jewelry and interior design and easily could have walked out of a magazine. Sweets were a particular passion and if left to her own devices she could live on chocolate and fresh bakery goods alone. She was a master gardener and spent many hours maintaining the immaculate lawn and flower beds of the nearly one-acre, lush and wooded property she helped manage in Covered Bridge Farms in Newark, DE, where she raised a family and lived for more than half a century.

But above all hobbies and interests was one lifelong passion for Beth, and that was serving her Lord Jesus Christ. She sang in the church choir and played organ hymns and piano arrangements. She carried free Gospel tracts in her purse and handed them to strangers when she shopped in stores and ate in restaurants. She prayed unceasingly, especially for her three sons. She prayed for them multiple times a day, every day, until the day she passed.

Beth Lyons was quick-witted and found humor in all victories and trials of life. She was a devoted and committed wife to her husband in every facet of their journey together.

She is survived by her husband, Jay Lyons of Newark, DE; and her three sons, John of Odessa, TX, Tim of Claremont, NH, and Andy of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Flowers can be sent to Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Odessa, TX, who is also handling arrangements.
