Obituary

Eddie L. Thompson, 88, of Odessa, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 21, 2026, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Asbury Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Eddie was born in Throckmorton, Texas, to E.L. and Lottie Thompson on November 26, 1937. He married Ramona on January 26, 1957, in Grand Falls, Texas. During their early years of marriage, they enjoyed square dancing together. After moving to Monahans, Eddie started a girls’ softball league to give younger girls the opportunity to play before they were old enough to participate in the established league.

Eddie spent 30 years working for Shell Oil, where he held numerous positions throughout his career, most notably as a production foreman. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Permian Basin International Oil Show.

An avid golfer, Eddie was a longtime member of the Odessa Country Club, where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf. He competed in numerous tournaments throughout the years, winning his flight in many of them, including the Oilmen’s Golf Tournament and the Quarter Century Tournament.

Eddie also had a lifelong love of sports. He was a longtime season ticket holder for the Permian Panthers. He also enjoyed cheering for the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Rangers. Whether he was watching a game, playing a round of golf, working in his yard, or serving at his church, Eddie enjoyed staying active and being involved in the things he loved. He also enjoyed spoiling his Maine Coon cat, Tiger, with treats, peanut butter and ice cream.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, E.L. and Lottie Thompson, and his son, Eddie Dale Thompson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Ramona; his granddaughter, Katie, and her husband, Jeremy Gray; his great-grandchildren, Cash Gray and Tinsley Gray; as well as extended family and dear friends.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Gray, Cash Gray, Tinsley Gray, Bill Parker, and Chris Clark.
