Dona Jean Meadows was called home by her Momma, Daddy and daughter Monique due to a short courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer, on August 21st, 2025.
Dona Jean was born on November 15th, 1965, in Los Animas, Colorado, to Carolyn and Jr. Garrett. As the baby of the family, she may have been the youngest—but she was never one to be overshadowed. Fiercely independent and delightfully stubborn, Dona carved her own path with grit, grace, and a spark that couldn’t be dimmed. No matter where she went, she never met a stranger. She was a woman of extraordinary strength, boundless love, and unwavering grace. She faced life’s challenges head on with courage and never let her hardships dim her life. Those who knew her remember her as a fiercely loving, tender hearted and endlessly forgiving woman.
Dona cherished her family above all else. Dona’s inspiration in life was becoming a mother of 4 beautiful girls. Monique, Tandi, Casey and Lindsay. She taught all her girls the importance of love, resilience and standing strong through life’s storms. Being the tether of love that is endless and will always be connected to her daughters through her. Dona was a constant in her girl’s life and always made sure they had what they needed and more. Whether it was school functions, family events, baby showers, or just family dinners. Any excuse to find a reason to make a meal and eat at moms even if it wasn’t on a holiday.
Dona met the love of her life, Kirven Hawkins, in 2005, and from that moment on, they were never apart. Their connection was instant and deep, the kind of love that felt like home. Dona was always there for Kirven, through every high and low, offering her quiet strength, her laughter, and her unwavering loyalty. And Kirven was just the same for her, her rock, her partner, her best friend. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the kind of companionship that only grows stronger with time.
Dona’s family circle was lovingly extended to include her adult stepchildren, Jason and Keely, and Jason’s wife, Melissa. She welcomed them with open arms and a generous heart, always making space for their lives, stories, and milestones. Her connection with them was built on mutual respect and affection, and she took pride in their accomplishments and the lives they built. To Dona, they weren’t just stepchildren, they were part of her family’s heartbeat.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (her littles) were the pride and joy of her life, a living legacy she cherished deeply. Each one brought a new spark, a fresh light that brightened her world. Kirstynn, the first grandchild, lovingly gave her the name “Nona,” a title she wore with pride. Then came Natalie, who seamlessly found her place in Nona’s home, filling it with laughter and love. Ian, the first grandson, joined the growing clan, followed by Maddax, the second grandson who quickly stole her heart, With Lana’s arrival, the backyard transformed into a joyful haven the official “kids club” at Nona’s, now affectionately renamed “Noni.” Sprinklers sprayed, bubbles floated, and the sound of giggles filled the air as she was surrounded by her beloved grandchildren. When Savannah arrived, she added her own sparkle to the family. And finally, Lyric the tiniest warrior, a micro preemie who defied every odd and became a symbol of strength and hope. And how could we ever forget the great grandbabies the next generation of sparkle and spunk. Ellie came into the world like a whirlwind, full of energy and personality. She didn’t just enter a room she announced herself. Bold, bright, and never afraid to speak her mind, Ellie brought a fire that kept everyone on their toes. Then there’s Elaina sweet and reserved, but don’t let that fool you. Behind those quiet eyes is a little streak of sass, clever wit, and a heart full of love. She’s the kind of girl who’ll surprise you with her strength and charm when you least expect it.
Dona’s love knew no bounds, and that included her step-grandchildren—Zoe, Stella, and Silas. She embraced them with the same warmth and devotion she gave to everyone she called family. Whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or quiet moments together, they held a special place in her heart. Her love for them was genuine and lasting, a beautiful reminder that family is built by love, not just blood. Dona had a heart big enough to hold every child who crossed her path. She didn’t see differences she saw potential, kindness, and the need for love. Whether it was a niece or nephew, neighbor’s kid, a friend from school, or someone going through a tough time, she welcomed them with open arms, warm meals, and the kind of wisdom that only a true mother figure could offer. Her home was a safe haven, the house that was home away from home, her words a source of comfort, her hugs, and, kisses the kind that made you feel like everything would be okay. She didn’t just raise her own children—she helped raise a community.
She loved her dogs Chesney, Juno, and Dukey like they were her children, each won a piece of her heart. Their presence brought her peace, laughter, and the kind of unconditional love that only a dog can give. They were her constant comfort and her joy.
She was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan through and through—orange and blue ran in her veins. Sundays were sacred, reserved for game day rituals that included her lucky jersey, spirited commentary from the couch, and unwavering belief in her team no matter the score. She could recall stats, plays, and players with the precision of a seasoned analyst, and her loyalty never wavered, even during the toughest seasons. Her passion for the Broncos wasn’t just about football, it was about pride, tradition, and the joy of cheering with heart and soul. She also supported Kirven in his love for the Kansas City Chiefs, showing that her loyalty didn’t prevent her from embracing the passions of those she cared about.
Dona was a force to be reckoned with at the pool table — an avid player whose passion for the game ran deep. She wasn’t just good; she was the top female shooter in her league, earning respect with every break and bank shot. But it wasn’t just about winning — it was about the people. She loved her league family fiercely, always showing up with a smile, a little sass, and a whole lot of heart. Her friendships were built on laughter, loyalty, and late nights spent chalking cues and cheering each other on. The pool hall was her second home, and she lit it up with her competitive spirit and genuine warmth.
She absolutely loved her job at Energy Transfer, where she dedicated 12 years of hard work, heart, and humor. It wasn’t just a workplace — it was a second family. She built lasting relationships with her coworkers, turning everyday tasks into moments of connection and camaraderie. Her favorite time of year was the Christmas party, which she planned with unmatched enthusiasm. She poured her creativity into every detail, making sure it was festive, fun, and unforgettable. For her, it wasn’t just about decorations or food — it was about bringing people together, celebrating the bonds they’d built, and spreading joy in the way only she could.
She was lovingly reunited in eternal rest with her dear mother, Carolyn, her devoted father, Junior, and her cherished daughter, Monique. Joining her also were her beloved nephews, Kyle and Chad Drake, her brothers Sonny and Danny, her sister Mary, and the many treasured aunts and uncles who went before her. Together again, they surround her with the same love and warmth that defined their time on earth
Those who will forever cherish her memory include her devoted husband, Kirven Hawkins.
