Don was born January 15, 1939, to Louie (PeeWee) and Susie Lawson in Elmer, Oklahoma. He went to school in McCamey, Texas, and graduated in 1957. After his boys graduated from high school, Don moved back to Odessa where he advanced his oilfield career until he was the vice president of drilling at TMBR Sharp Drilling Company. Don was an avid bass fisherman and passed his passion to his sons and grandson. He loved his family and chewing tobacco. Don had a special relationship with his sister, Jeanette Lawson Bennett. His beloved dog Otto also held a special place in his heart.
