David Brunette, 77, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on February 19, 2026, in Odessa.
David was born on October 17, 1948, in Naples, Texas, to James Morris “Pete” Brunette and Nadine “Gilly” Golden.
David spent his life working in the oilfields of West Texas. What began as a job grew into a lifelong career that took him from roustabout to supervisor. He worked for G.Q. Salmon & Sons, Chevron, Gulf, XTO, Key Energy, Exxon. The oilfield was more than work to him — it was his home away from home. He dedicated over 50 years to the WaterStation in the Fields of Goldsmith , Texas. When he did retire it was only so his body could finally rest. To those who knew him best, he was known as “The Legend.”
Beyond his work, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Shirley Faye Cox, on March 18, 1967. Together they built a life and a love story that spanned 58 years together. Together they raised five beautiful children. They loved each one distinctly and uniquely. Each one with their own special memories to last a lifetime.
( Mom and Dad’s relationship wasn’t without its storms, but they shared one umbrella and weathered them side by side. Now they are forever together again.)
It was best said from a dear Sister n Law “Everyone knew that what Shirley says goes” and Shirley says “David it’s time to come home. We can watch over our kids from up here . It’s a much better view.”
David had a strong will, a generous heart, and a deep love for his family, peanut butter sandwiches, and his wheel of Fortune. Not to mention his love of football, especially the Super Bowl, which was a family affair.
He was known for his strength, honor and integrity. Many have said “He was the hardest working man they ever knew.”
To his wife, he was loving and steady. To his children, he was “Superman”. To his coworkers, he was “The Legend”. He had an incredible ability to make people feel loved, wanted, and accepted.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley Brunette; his parents, James Morris “Pete” Brunette and Nadine Golden; his son, David Shane Brunette; and his siblings Charlie and Morris Brunette, Glennelle, Judy, Stella, and Tina Brunette
David is survived by his children: Shaye Lane (Shawn), Samantha Stark (Bobby), Deric Brunette (Angie), Cody Brunette (Allison), and his brother Rick Brunette. He also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, along with countless friends and extended family who loved him dearly.
