Danny Ray Woods

Odessa

 

Danny, 74, was born April 12, 1949, in Monahans, Texas, to Elmer and James Woods. He passed away peacefully in his home on November 20, 2023. 

 

He grew up in Odessa schools and churches. graduating from Odessa Hight School in 1968. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. He passed high security clearance and was trained to maintain and launch Pershing missiles. He served in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Utah, and Ulm Germany. He completed his service in 1971 as a SP5.

 

Upon returning to Odessa, he attended Odessa College, taking general education and art classes. He worked nights in the foundry at Wooley Tod and soon found himself training as a machinist. He continued working in the oil field service industry until retirement. After retirement, he worked in local gun shops and worked as a crossing guard for local schools.

 

Danny was a skilled marksman, excelling in competitive shooting.  He loved archery techniques and working on equipment. He was a student of US History, military and weapon history, and had an interest in politics.

 

Danny also had a softer side. He loved babies and small children, cats, old movies, and Taco Villa. He appreciated the beauty of nature and enjoyed reading Scriptures from the Bible.

 

He was a champion of underdogs. He was quiet and avoided confrontation but had strong opinions and was a man of his word.

 

He was a gentleman and a protection of women and children. He was always armed with a flashlight and escorted all nighttime visitors to their car. Danny was always helpful and generous.

 

Danny is preceded in death by his parents, and survived by Gail Etheredge and special friends, Tom Reed, Randy Bhoodram, Richard O'Daniels, Larry Keene, James Delcore, and Gary Cassity, and a host of gal pals.

 

No service is planned per Danny's instructions. Sunset Memorial Gardens is in charge of his burial.
