Cyntitha Coreen Day was born on June 21, 1931 in Terry County, TX to Vernie and Lovie (Massengale) Jonas. God called her home on August 3, 2026. Her school days were spent around Weatherford and Brownfield, TX where her parents worked on a dry land farm and picked cotton. Drought caused her family to lose their land and farm, and they moved back to the plains of west Texas. Her mother operated a small cafe in Brownfield, and Coreen worked as a feisty, little waitress.

While in Brownfield, Coreen met the W. W. Day family and became friends with many of the Day children (there were 15 of them) and grandchildren. This was during the WWII era. There was one very specific Day young man who caught her eye and she caught his! C. W. “Mutt” Day was that young man. Having recently returned home from the U.S. Navy, he began leading the music at a little Baptist Church near his family home. Coreen’s interest in attending that same church greatly increased about that time. She happily sat on the pew with Mutt’s family as she tried to catch Mutt’s eye (and maybe get him tickled) as he was leading the music. It wasn’t long, though, before the Lord caught her heart; and as Mutt witnessed to her, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. Coreen always stressed to her children and grandchildren that friends were very important influences in their lives; thus, choose your friends carefully. She has always been thankful for the positive influence that Mutt and his family had on her life. Her “mansion” in Heaven has been secured for a really long time now.

Mutt and Coreen were married on August 30, 1947, by Rev. Sam Bryant in front of the bay window at Mutt’s parents’ home. Mutt had $20.00 in his pocket and gave that to the preacher, thinking he would get some change back! Let’s just say, that their honeymoon money was very limited. Dwayne joined the happy couple in 1948 and Teresa came along in 1952.

Coreen deeply loved her family. She was a Proverbs 31 wife, mother, and grandmother. Her early, early mornings started with coffee and reading her Bible and praying. Before going to her own job and getting kids off to school, she did her planned cleaning, washing, ironing, sewing, food preparations and any other jobs that needed to be done for her family. She was quite a seamstress and made many of Dwayne’s shirts and Teresa’s dresses during their school days. Many mornings, the family would awaken to the aroma of her delicious Chocolate Fried Pies (made from scratch, including the dough)! As we sat down for breakfast to enjoy those treats, she would be frying extra pies for her children to take to their teachers. Many have enjoyed her homemade Chocolate and Coconut Cream Pies through the years, as well as her Chocolate Peanut Cluster Candy. Sharing and taking care of others were among her greatest attributes.

Coreen loved people! The highlight of her career was being a church secretary. That role fit her quite well! She served at Second Baptist Church in Odessa, Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Hobbs and First Baptist Church in Andrews. Additionally, she volunteered for various roles at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church in Midland and First Baptist Church in Odessa.

“Nan” was one of her favorite titles, given to her by her grandson, James. He always told everyone that his Nan said he was perfect … and she absolutely said that! She loved and encouraged him through many fun years and many difficult years. When her granddaughter, Amanda, joined the family, Coreen received another of her favorite titles, “Granny”. Amanda spent many nights with Granny, and they enjoyed sewing, playing games, and cooking breakfast together on the patio. No matter what meal was served, Amanda always complimented the food and said that it was the best she’d ever had!

The legacy that Coreen has left to her family and friends is “Serve the Lord with Gladness”. She would encourage you to prepare to meet her in heaven by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, if you haven’t yet done that. Two of her favorite scriptures were Joshua 24: 15 - … As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord … and John 14: 1-7 … Let not your heart be troubled … in my father’s house are many mansions…

Her husband, Mutt; her parents; her grandson, James; her infant granddaughter; her brother, Orville; her sister, Lillie and her brother, Charles precede her in death.

She is survived by her brother, Lee Jonas (Rose); her children, Dwayne and Dianne Day; Teresa and Ron Bryan; her granddaughter, Amanda; her sister-in-law, Charlene Day; her adopted daughters, Laurie and Dee and a host of very special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all of First Baptist Church, Odessa for your prayers and encouragement throughout the years of Mom’s illness and the caring team at Westbrook Village Memory Care at Permian Regional Care Center in Andrews, TX for your excellent care of Mother (and us) through the last few months of her life.

Visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on August 7, 2026, from 12:30 – 1pm. Funeral services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on August 7, 2026, at 1pm with Reverend, Dr. Byron McWilliams officiating. Burial will follow services at Andrews North Cemetery in Andrews, TX. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, TX.
