Obituary

Connie Ann Thames, 79, of Odessa, Texas, residing in Midland, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026.

Connie was born in Odessa, Texas, on September 12, 1947, to Chester “Check” Stephens and Anna Dell (Partain) Stephens. She graduated from Odessa High School.

In January 1968, Connie married Frankie Garrett, who preceded her in death. Together, they had three children. When her children were young, Connie was primarily a stay-at-home mother, dedicating herself to raising her family. She also helped keep the books for her parents’ dry-cleaning business.

Connie had a heart for helping others and became deeply involved with the American Legion and VFW. She especially cherished her time serving veterans and their families. She would organize holiday meals at the VFW in Midland so that veterans who did not have family nearby could enjoy a home-cooked meal surrounded by their “Veteran family.” Her kindness, generosity, and willingness to make others feel welcomed were a special part of who she was.

On February 14, 2019, Connie married Robert Thames in Midland, Texas. Although their marriage lasted just seven years, their love for one another was deep and genuine. They loved and adored each other very much, and their time together brought Connie great happiness.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Chester “Check” Stephens and Anna Dell (Partain) Stephens, and her first husband, Frankie Garrett.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Thames of Midland, Texas; her daughters, Malissa Blackmon and husband Joe Blackmon of Odessa, and Michelle “Shelly” Baker and husband Sam Baker of Odessa; and her son and pride and joy, Frankie Garrett and wife Selina Garrett of Singapore.

Connie is also survived by her grandchildren, Brittany Blackmon, Brandon Blackmon, Bandy Blackmon, Tifnie Van Echoutte, Jonathan Baker, Bailey Garrett, Anna Garrett, and Michael Garrett; her great-grandchildren, Josiah Blackmon, Brodey Blackmon, Brenton Blackmon, Logan Olson, Jase Blackmon, and Scarlette Blackmon; and her great-great-grandson, Charlie Blackmon.

She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends whom she loved deeply and considered family.

Connie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her generous heart, her love for veterans, and the many ways she made people feel cared for and welcomed. Her memory will live on through the family and friends who were blessed to know and love her.
