Odessa

Bill W. Johnson of Odessa passed away on July 9, 2024. Bill was born on the family farm in Rockwood Tx. To Robert and Opal Hamilton Johnson. Bill celebrated his 89th birthday this past April. 

He moved with his parents to Santa Anna Tx. with his family as a young boy where he attended school until 1950. The family moved to Odessa where Bill attended the old Crockett Jr. High on West 10th street. Bill attended Odessa High School and graduated in 1953. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in occupation of Germany. 

He met and married Eddie Fuqua in 1956. Bill & Eddie had two children, Vicki Johnson and Mark Johnson. Bill was a proud Father, and proud Grandfather to Stevie, Landon, Cole, and great granddaughter Mila. 

Bill retired from the US Postal Service after 36 years of service. He soon discovered that retirement was not his thing. He worked for Walmart Photo Division for 6 years, West Texas Opportunities for 4 years and finally EZ Rider Transit for 10 years. He was “Mr. Bill” to his customers and coworkers. He served as a past President of the National Association of Letter Carriers Local branch #3946.

Bill was instrumental in the development of the Permian Basin Federal Credit Union, He named the Credit Union and designed the Logo and served on the Board of Directors for over 30 years.

Bill was an active charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years serving in many different areas. He was a longtime Chairman of the Ushers.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Betty June; sister, Melba Bettis; granddaughter, Kimberly Turner; and nephew, Michael Herring.

He is survived by his wife Eddie of 67 years; daughter, Vicki Johnson of McKinney; son, Mark Johnson and wife Carol of Midland; grandson, Landon Johnson and wife Angelica of Savannah; granddaughter, Stevie Johnson of Austin; grandson, Cole Johnson of Odessa; great granddaughter, Mila Johnson of Savannah, Kellye Johnson; mother of Stevie and Cole of Odessa as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Graveside services will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral home in Odessa.
