Betty Ferguson

September 25, 1927 — August 4, 2020

Denton

Betty Jane Jennings Deatherage Ferguson, 92 of Denton, Tx left this life and entered her eternal Heavenly Home on August 3, 2020 at the Carriage House.

The Graveside Service will be 1:00PM, Friday August 7, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

A memorial service will be August 15, 2020 at 10:30 at Friendship Church in Denton. Grandson, Michael Dan Helms of Friendship Church will be officiating.

Betty was born in Sapulpa, Ok to Merle and Marjorie Jennings on September 25, 1927. She graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1945. She married Clayton Deatherage on January 11, 1947 in Oklahoma City, OK.  Clayton passed away on September 30, 1987.  Betty married Travis Ferguson on September 7, 2002, in Odessa, Tx. He passed away on December 24, 2011.

Betty was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She worked willingly with her hands taking care of her home and family. One of her favorite past times was reading Christian fiction & nonfiction books. She had a green thumb and loved tending to her flower gardens.

She was a faithful Christian who was actively involved in the local church. She played the piano, sang specials, taught Bible studies, & worked in Women’s Ministries. She faithfully attended sectional & district functions of the Assemblies of God. Devoted to ministry, she dedicated her life to helping people, especially those who could not give anything in return. She ministered at nursing homes, visited the sick, & served those with personal needs. She was a lifelong student of the Word, living out the Bible, praying always with all prayer and supplication for family, friends, and especially missionaries. A pilgrim of the invisible, little in stature but strong in the Lord & the power of His might, she was a friend of missionaries, a lover of God, and a soul winner. Even near the end of her life she continued to lead people to the Lord. She had many friends…never meeting a stranger. She loved meeting people and finding out about their lives and families.  One of her many favorite scriptures was Proverbs 3:5&6. She lived a long and fruitful life that impacted lives across the globe and left an unfaltering legacy of faith to her descendants.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brother Jack, sister Dolores Estes, niece Gaylene Estes, many in-laws, and friends.

Betty is survived by daughters Dianne Helms (& Don), Konnie Mahaffey (& Frank), Lynese Freeman (& Richard), son Chuck Deatherage (& Heather), 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, & 3 great great grandchildren, cousins, and numerous nephews & nieces. She was proud of her grandsons and great grandson in full time ministry.
