Alyssa Monique (The Champ) Vega, 19, of Odessa gained her wings on April 11, 2024. She was born April 22, 2004, in Odessa, Texas to Aaron Vega and Audawnica Martinez.
Alyssa graduated from Permian High School in 2022. After graduation she attained a certificate as a Nurse’s Aide/Tech. She was employed at the Medical Center Hospital–she worked in 3 West and was loved by many. The medical field was a passion for Alyssa, and she eventually wanted to pursue a career as a Radiology Tech. Alyssa had a gift for serving others and will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and generous person who made a difference in so many lives.
Alyssa loved her family, friends and her dog Ali with all that she had and loved spending time with each of them. She had a great love for her nieces Jaide and Emma and nephew Elias “EJ”–each chance she had she would spoil them with her time and loved to pamper them. She also loved spending quality time with the love of her life, Marlene “Mars”.
Boxing was one of her greatest passions and she worked hard to become the best that she aspired to be. In her first sparring session against a male boxer, she gained the utmost respect from the boxing community.
Alyssa’s influence and infectious smile were evident to everyone she encountered. The love and care she gave was sincere and genuine. Alyssa was selfless, putting others above herself. She will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her parents Aaron Vega and Audawnica Martinez; siblings Jarron Martinez (Natalie Ramos), Aaliyah Vega (Tomas Natividad), Alex Vega; nieces Jaide and Emma Martinez; nephew Elias Martinez; grandparents Terry Martinez, Oscar and Mimi Vega; girlfriend Marlene Franco as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Alyssa is preceded in death by her grandfather Ernest “Ernie” Martinez; grandmother Rebecca “Becky” Mendoza; great-grandparents Ponciano “Chano” and Margarita Dominguez; Catarino and Olivia Vega and Ernest and Elvira Martinez; and Cousin Elias Hernandez.
