Alton Dale Willis

Lubbock

Alton D. Willis of Lubbock, TX went to his heavenly home on Monday, March 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

 Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 6801 E. Highway 80, Odessa, TX 79762.   A burial will follow. 

Alton was born on June 21, 1943, in Bakersfield, CA, to Della Mae and Otto Willis.  They preceded him in death.  

He married Bernice in September 1961 in California.  She preceded him in death in 2007.  They had three children together; a daughter, Tammy Evans, and two sons Dale Willis and Jerry Willis. He was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church. Alton worked in the Potash Mines in Carlsbad, NM.  He then worked in law enforcement until he started working in the oilfield.  He was committed to his chosen career and became a respected icon in the oilfield, primarily West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico.  He was proud that he was recognized in newspaper articles talking about his oilfield career. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing, and going to the shooting ranges with his kids and grandkids. He then married Carolyn in Lubbock in July 2012. 

Alton is survived by his wife, Carolyn. He is also survived by his children, Tammy Evans of Odessa, TX; son, Dale Willis and his wife Tamara of Guthrie, OK; and son, Jerry Willis and Jessica of Eustis, FL; grandchildren, Jerad and his wife Tiffany, Meagan and her husband Jared, Chance, Dillon, Amanda, Hailey, Kelci, Jeremiah, Jack, and Josh; great grandchildren, Emily, Landon, and Connor; brother, Derrill Willis and his family. As well as many other loving family members and friends.  

He is preceded in death his great grandson, Colton Miller; and his brother, Ernest Willis.  

His family would like to extend a special thanks to Tommy Evans and his caregiver Audrey Perez.  

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, West Texas Chapter, 4400 N. Big Spring, Suite E202, Midland, TX 79705 or UMC Hospice Care, An Amedisys Partner, 309 Slide Rd, Suite #102, Lubbock, TX 79416.  

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
