Obituary

Alice Ann Garlington, 82 of Odessa, became ill and passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Covenant Health Center in Lubbock, Texas.

She was born on June 8, 1944 in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Ferrell Glenn Payne and Nellie Alice (Overbey) Payne. She married Terry Deane Garlington on August 26, 1965. She was a secretary in the maintenance department at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois for many years and was a secretary for an insurance company in Anson, Texas for many years.

She was a loving thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was loved beyond measure in return. Her kindness, strength, and unconditional love touched the lives of so many and will never be forgotten. Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than fine perfume.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Deane Garlington; parents, Ferrell Glenn Payne and Nellie Alice (Overbey) Payne; brothers, Ferrell F. Payne and Nolan N. Payne; brothers-in-law Stuart Propst, Bob Eubanks, and Buddy Herin; and son-in-law Virgil Garrett.

Survivors include her daughter Rhonda Garlington Ely and husband Bryan Ely, their children, Bailey Ann Ely and Taylor Ann Ely, all of Jones, Oklahoma; Tish Garlington Garrett of Abilene, Texas and her children Kayla Ann Harthcock (Trey) of Carthage, Texas and Trista Leigh McIntire of Lubbock, Texas; Great-grandchildren Bentley Harthcock and Everleigh Harthcock of Carthage, Texas; Sister Nova N. Herin of Corpus Christi, Texas; brother, David D. Payne (Tammy) of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Sisters-in-law Peggy Eubanks of Abilene, Texas, Karen Payne of Buda, Texas, Linda Payne of Woodlawn, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 27, 2026 with the service to follow at 10:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Dr. Jimmy Braswell. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
