Alice Elsie “May” (Miller) Thornhill, age 93, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Parks Retirement Village.

May was born November 24, 1923 to Oscar Deloplane and Celia Sears Miller in Neligh, Nebraska. She grew up in Roswell, NM and graduated from Roswell High School.

May married Robert A. (Bob) Thornhill on September 1, 1950. They moved to Odessa in 1953. She and Bob were charter members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She loved her church and was an active member throughout her life. May’s gift to everyone that knew her was service. She was always willing to help anyone at any time. Whether it be to assist at the church office, Meals on Wheels, assist and greet new people or family members to Parks, help cut out scripture cards for Sunday school, or serve on the Resident’s Council at Parks. She was always ready and willing.
May also worked at Hood Junior High School for the Food Service. She was known as the “Candy Lady”.

She loved her family. She and Bob had three sons, Larry, Robert (Bobby), and Ronny. They were the love of her life. She welcomed each son’s wife as if they were her own children. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

May was an excellent role model for all that came in contact with her. Her faith and family were the most important. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. “Her children arise and call her blessed: her husband also, and he praises her; many women do noble things, but you surpass them all… Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”vs. 28-29, 31.

May is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert A. (Bob) Thornhill, her parents and four siblings.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Thornhill and wife, Rhonda of Odessa, Bobby Thornhill and wife, Karen of Odessa and Ronny Thornhill and wife, Stacy of Hubert, NC; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Graveside Service is at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Rhonda Thornhill officiating.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses, aides and staff at Parks Retirement Village for their sixteen years of service to our mother. You have touched and blessed her and us.

Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign her guestbook at

My wife and I would like to offer our condolences and give our prayers for the loss of May.

My mother, Ila Faye Ewing, was also a resident of Parks in the same wing that May lived in. May never failed to come and talk to us and tell us how my mother was doing. When my mother died last June, when I got over to Parks, May was the first to see us before I got to my mother. She always was very kind and considerate every time we visited my mom at Parks. She always made our day when we came to visit our mother.

May was a real blessing to me. I met her a few yrs ago when my mom was a resident of Parks. Since my mom passed two yrs ago, I have continued to visit May. She had such a sharp mind and was so interesting to talk to. Since my mom had Alzheimers, May always kept me informed of things she thought I should know, because she knew my mom couldnt tell me. I really appreciated that. She will be greatly missed, but I am greatfull for the time I was able to know her.

So sorry to hear about May passing!
We visited with her during the last couple years when
my Mom was at Parks too. She always had a smile and
greeted us. My husband brought peanut butter cookies out to her every time he made them. She will be greatly
missed. My mother is Mrs Dunn.

Your Mom was a wonderful person and always loved making people happy. My whole staff at the office just loved having her come and share all her stories and her crazy fingernail polishes. She will be missed but she is in heaven giving Bob trouble already.
    God bless, Jimmy Goates
