Billy “Bill” Don Owen
Bill Owen, 55, died Sunday, July 18, at his home after a long, courageous fight against Leukemia.
He was born in Dallas, Texas to Melvin and Dorothy Owen. Bill worked many years in heavy equipment with Rust Tractor and West Texas Caterpillar. He also worked for Gerhardt’s and NorAm of Odessa, Texas. He was a licensed Real Estate Agent and a Home Inspector.
Bill was an avid Longhorn fan and enjoyed West Texas High School football, “rivalries included,” and Hobbs Eagles Basketball. He loved sports! He will be missed by family and everyone who knew him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Dorothy Owen and a brother, Jim Owen.
He is survived by his wife, Dee; two brothers, Jerry Owen and wife, Nancy, of Arlington, Texas and Marshall Owen and wife, Sally, of Shreveport, Louisiana; an aunt, Billie Shaver of Odessa; an uncle, Claude Montgomery, and wife, Bobbye, of Saachse, Texas.
He is also survived by his in-laws, Roy and Carita Greebon; brother-in-law, Dalton Greebon and his wife, Trisha, all of Hobbs, New Mexico; and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and talked about often. In addition, he included Mama Mutt Day, Ron and Teresa Bryan and Dwayne and Sharon Day as part of his extended family. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bailey Stone and Curtis Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
