Don Henderson, 81, was born in Wink, Texas and lived in Oil Center, New Mexico and Odessa, Texas. He died February 28, 2010 at home in Odessa.
He was born December 17, 1928 to James and Maude Carpenter Henderson. He was reared and educated in Eunice, New Mexico. He was extremely athletic, and was offered seven full scholarships in basketball. He won State Champion in basketball in 1949, and was State Champion in tennis in 1946.
Don met Jean Condron in Eunice. They married on September 30, 1955 in Lovington and were married for 50 years. They moved to Odessa in 1961. Don worked at Getty Oil Company until he retired in 1985.
Don was a fun loving prankster with a gentle spirit which endeared him to all who knew him. He loved children and children loved him. He loved God and his family. He was a member of University Heights Baptist Church.
Don is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean, his two sons, Tommy Bost and Kenny Bost, four brothers and his parents.
Survivors include three sisters, Annie and her husband Chuck Harlan of Eunice, Imogene Rogers of Hobbs, Hazel and her husband Mike Cherry of Winters; one brother, Roy Tabb and his wife Thelma of Midland; a daughter, Donna Jean Henderson Jones and her husband, Danny Jones of Odessa; three granddaughters, Kristal Bost Woods, and her husband Cogo, Teena Johnston Martel, Kathy Johnston Hughes and her husband Lloyd; his six great grandchildren, Thomas, Brayden, Sydney, Dalton, Tyler and Tinley; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family is scheduled for 5-7 PM Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, March 4, 2010 at University Heights Baptist Church with Cecil Maxey officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
