George Lucian Coenen, Jr. of Midland passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 after a year long battle with cancer.

George was born September 5, 1940 in Harlingen, Texas to George Lucian Coenen and Norma Kimmerly Coenen. He attended Elementary schools in Laredo, Texas and graduated from Tyler High School and Tyler College in Tyler, Texas. He married Eva Reza Ison in Odessa, Texas on January 28, 1994. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966. Upon his discharge from the Navy he started his employment with Rexene-Huntsman Corp. in Odessa, Texas as a Lab Supervisor and retired after 34 years of service. George’s free time was spent planting pecan trees and taking care of his orchard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Lucian Coenen.

He is survived by his wife, Evangelina “Eva” Coenen of Midland; his mother, Norma Coenen of Odessa, his sisters, Dale Howard of Odessa, Helen Mann of Richmond, Virginia and Sally LeGrand of LaPorte, Texas; step-son, Kevin and Stoni Ison of Midland; step-daughter, Lisa and Victor Pena of Trinity, Texas; and his grandchildren, Devin, Dylan and Emily Ison of Midland and Brandon, Taylor, and Jordan Penn of Trinity, Texas.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 PM Friday, January 29, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. Burial, with VFW Military Honors, will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
